[2016 Event] 2016 Scientific Symposium of Institut Pasteur International Network

2016-11-28

A unique international scientific symposium on biomarkers open to all the scientific community

With 33 members spread over 5 continents, the Institut Pasteur International Network is uniquely positioned to meet major global health challenges.

Despite dramatic progress made in combatting infectious diseases at the international level, infectious disease is the leading cause of death among vulnerable populations like children and resource poor. Additionally, 68% of the 60 million deaths that occur every year are attributable to non-communicable diseases (cardiovascular diseases, cancers, etc.) whose incidence is rising in developing countries.

The discovery of new biomarkers and their translation into health interventions are crucial to addressing the challenges posed by human diseases. Better tools are needed for the detection and surveillance of diseases at the epidemiological level as well as for diagnosis and monitoring of infections and conditions at the clinical level. Their development and access by developing countries are increasingly important in the advent of personalized medicine.

The 2016 edition of the Scientific Symposium of the Institut Pasteur International Network on new biomarkers in human health will cover every aspect of research including basic, clinical and operational science, necessary for identification, validation, and development.

All scientists, clinicians and public health experts from both communicable and non-communicable diseases fields are welcome to attend as well as civil society representatives, government and international organizations officials and industrial partners.

Building on the success of the last two editions, we are confident that this symposium will establish a high-level forum for multidisciplinary dialogue and exchange between all stakeholders involved in Global Health/One Health, thus be an opportunity to create fruitful synergies and promote international collaborations that will be a source of hope for positive global health.

Members of the Institut Pasteur Korea have been invited to share research advancements on hepatitis, influenza, HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma), antibiotics and leishmaniasis.

Review of 2016 Scientific Symposium of Institut Pasteur International Network

December 5, 2016 | Last week scientists and health officials from 44 countries gathered at the 3rd annual Institut Pasteur International Network Symposium in Paris. More than 350 participants, representing all 33 member institutions, as well as guests from other organizations, convened to discuss the urgency and great need to research and develop new biomarkers. The forum allowed for scientific exchange between nations as well as an opportunity for young career scientists to engage with more seasoned researchers. There was lively debate over the latest advances in research and technology, discussions on health challenges for the years to come and initial groundwork laid for future international collaborations and professional outreach.
