[Digital Times] The Korea Virus Research Institute opened its doors for response against new infectious diseases

The Korea Virus Research Institute (KVRI) was launched on the 6th, paving a way for various research cooperation to enhance the ability to respond to emerging viruses and their variants.

Institut Pasteur Korea (IPK) CEO Dr. Youngmee Jee attended the opening ceremony and added meaning; IPK plans to take the lead in strengthening Korea’s infectious disease preparedness and response capabilities in cooperation with KVRI. In particular, IPK is currently building key research infrastructure for basic virus research, a Research Resource Center. This new research facility, which includes a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3)  facility, is targeted for operation in 2023. Until completion, IPK will make available the BSL-3 research facility for KVRI to jointly use, and share related expertise.

IPK will continuously strive for national health security by utilizing its outstanding infectious disease research capabilities and international network.
