In an interview with DongA Science, Dr. Joohwan No, Head of Leishmaniasis Research Laboratory at IPK, explained his research focus on leishmaniasis, the current status of leishmaniasis research and treatment as well as the importance of research on neglected diseases.

The lab’s final research goal is to develop a less toxic drug with better efficacy while being more cost effective to produce. Since research started in 2013, Dr. No’s team has found a number of effective compounds. Promising drug candidates will be tested in clinical trials in India.

Dr. No says, “In 20-30 years, a neglected disease has the potential to become one of the three major diseases. Therefore, today, we need future-oriented research with long-term perspective.” To read the article in Korean, please click here.
