On International Women's Day,
Institut Pasteur Korea was full of roses!
Dr. Youngmee Jee, the Institut Pasteur Korea CEO, presented a rose to all female members of the institute commemorating International Women's Day on Mar 8.
International Women's Day, a day for an improved status of women, celebrates women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. It is rooted in the 8th of March 1908, when women workers in the United States held a massive demonstration to improve poor working conditions and win the right to vote. The United Nations officially designated March 8 as International Women's Day in 1977.
Handing out in person the roses to the female leaders representing the female members of IPK, heads of the Antibacterial Resistance Lab., the Cancer Biology Research Lab., and the Medicinal Chemistry Lab., Dr. Jee said, “When working at WHO, I liked the warm gesture of sharing roses commemorating International Women's Day,” and added, “The female members of IPK, consisting more than half of all IPK members, are the driving force that makes IPK move forwards and I look forward to further expanding their role and activities in the future.”
At the Institut Pasteur Korea, the proportion of women is about 65%, which is significantly higher than the average proportion of female workers in domestic companies of 38.41% (in 2019).
The female members gifted the rose flower expressed their gratitude, saying, “I was impressed by this surprising event that I had never thought of,” and “This is an inspiration for me to remember the meaning of International Women's Day and begin the week with full of vibrant energy.”
Here we would like to share IPK female members' voices in celebration of World Women's Day.
