Dr. Youngmee Jee, the Institut Pasteur Korea CEO, presented the COVID-19 Vaccine Status of South Korea at the "Vaccines and Global Health" symposium organized by the Columbia University.

Dr. Youngmee Jee, the Institut Pasteur Korea CEO, presented 'A South Korean Perspective on Vaccine Preparedness and Availability' at the "Vaccines and Global Health: COVID-19 Vaccine Development, Strategy and Implementation" symposium organized by the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons on Feb. 22. 2021 (US EST).

Participated in the first session of the 5-day symposium titled 'National, Regional and Global Response to an Unprecedented Challenge,' Dr. Jee exchanged expert’ views along with the Director of Wellcome Trust, the Director of National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, US CDC, the Unit Chief of Comprehensive Family Immunization, PAHO, etc.

As a South Korean perspective, Dr. Jee shared the latest COVID-19 vaccine & vaccination preparedness in Korea, including the National COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy announced on Jan. 28, and the simulation exercise took place on Feb. 9.


Dr. Jee said that thanks to the inter-ministerial efforts combined with the collaboration of public health centers, a precise and systematic vaccination process, including supply and distribution, vaccination, AEFI Monitoring, is in place and ready to be implemented. Additionally, she mentioned, as a result of the government's considerable efforts in communicating with the public, it was found that the vaccination consent rate was over 93%. She also introduced the current standing of the COVID-19 vaccine development in Korea. Through this series of efforts, she said that S. Korea aims for herd immunity by November 2021.
