Institut Pasteur Korea Discussed
Tuberculosis Research with Officials from Science Magazine and the Human Frontier Science Program
Richard Stone, international correspondent for Science, the international academic journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and special advisor to the Human Frontier Science Program* (HFSP), visited the Institut Pasteur Korea (IPK) to discuss on TB research.
* Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP): An international initiative established in 1989 to promote innovative international collaborative research in the life sciences field.
At the seminar held that day on topics such as multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis, IPK’s tuberculosis (TB) researchers, discussed the prevalence of tuberculosis and multi-drug-resistant infections in Korea. The researchers introduced IPK’s target-based high-content screening (HCS) technology and the resistant tuberculosis treatment candidate Q203 (Telacebec).
There was also an exchange of views on Korea’s high tuberculosis prevalence, the highest among OECD countries, as well as the increasing incidence of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) in the country.
After the seminar, a lab tour was conducted, showcasing IPK’s research facilities, including a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) research facility.
Institut Pasteur Korea aims to expand its collaborations with international journals and research institutes and to promote the IPK’s achievements through international communication.
