Institut Pasteur Korea (IPK), the Nakdonggang National Institute of Biological Resources (NNIBR), and the Pohang Techno Park have successfully transferred a technology entitled "Antimicrobial Technology Using Penthorum chinense Extract" to PITEN Inc., a company specializing in cosmetics manufacturing.

Soojin Jang, Head of the Antibacterial Resistance Lab. at the IPK, participated in the collaborative research to develop a natural antimicrobial material technology utilizing the outstanding antibacterial properties of Penthorum chinense, a plant native to Korea.

The joint research team confirmed that Penthorum chinense extract exhibits potent antibacterial activity against major bacteria associated with skin inflammation, demonstrating its strong potential as a natural antimicrobial ingredient for industrial applications.

In recent years, the cosmetics industry has seen growing demand for environmentally friendly, naturally derived antimicrobial ingredients as alternatives to synthetic preservatives. The transferred technology is expected to contribute to the development of functional skincare cosmetics by providing a safe and effective natural antimicrobial ingredient with skin-improving properties.
