Institut Pasteur Korea signed a MoU with Myongji Hospital
for collaboration in infectious disease research
and human materials sharing and utilization

On December 28, 2023, Institut Pasteur Korea (IPK) and Myongji Hospital signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the sharing and utilization of infectious disease research resources.

Throughout the MoU, both organizations aim to collaborate in preparedness and response to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases by providing domestic and international industry, academia, and research institutions with access to fundamental research resources.
IPK's 'Global Infectious Disease Specimen Bank (GISB)' and Myongji Hospital's 'Human Materials Bank' will take the lead in  accelerating the collaboration.

In August 2023, IPK launched GISB, specializing in the collection and distribution of infectious disease specimens and pathogens. GISB plans to collect and distribute the patient specimens of respiratory, vector-borne, zoonotic, sexually transmitted, and waterborne infectious diseases from both domestic and international to industry, academia, and research institutions.

IPK had participated in the Myongji Hospital's Official Development Assistance (ODA) Project Team's program for strengthening the capacity of healthcare professionals in developing countries. IPK is discussing collaborative strategies in the field of biological resources with researchers in Asia and Africa.

Byungkwon Lim, CEO of IPK, stated, " With the shared acknowledgment of the importance of human materials for the development of infectious disease diagnostics, prevention, and therapeutics, IPK and Myongji Hospital will establish a collaborative network in this field to contribute to public health.”
