Dr. Youngmee Jee, CEO of Institut Pasteur Korea, has been appointed as a private advisor for the '2021 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference in Seoul'.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a private advisory committee appointment ceremony and the first advisory committee meeting on July 29th. The private advisory committee consists of 16 experts in the field of general event management, accompanied/cultural events, and media publicity, and Dr. Jee was appointed as a disease control expert among the members of the event management committee.

Dr. Jee said, “I feel burdened with the responsibility of acting as private advisor in the field of disease control for the largest scale high-level conference held in South Korea amid threats from the pandemic. I will do my part to ensure that Korea's excellent COVID-19 response capabilities will lead to a successful hosting of the conference, with ‘Safety for all’, the promotional keyword for the event, being thoroughly observed throughout the conference.”

Dr. Jee has served in major public health institutions in Korea and abroad, including the Korea National Institute of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO), and has accumulated professional and international insight in the fields of infectious disease prevention, management, response, and research. In particular, she has led major international health and medical events held in Korea to success with her roles as the government representative for WHO-Korea Joint Mission on MERS Outbreak in 2015, the deputy director for 2nd High-Level Meeting of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) preparation TF, and the head of the WHO International Health Regulation (IHR) Joint External Evaluation (JEE) on national public health emergency response capacity TF in 2017.

The “UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference” is the largest UN conference for peace and security attended by foreign and defense ministers from 155 member nations of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, as well as representatives of international organizations. The “2021 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference in Seoul”, which is being hosted for the first time by an Asian country, will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul on December 7~8, 2021. Participants from each country will hold various discussions targeting maintenance of global peace under the theme of “Strengthening Technology and Medical Capabilities”.
