IPK CEO Dr. Youngmee Jee discussed strategies to enhance scientific collaboration with the EU in the meeting held by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea
Institut Pasteur Korea (IPK) CEO Dr. Youngmee Jee joined the meeting held by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea last week.
Presided by H.E. Maria Castillo Fernandez, EU Ambassador to the Rep. of Korea, the meeting was attended by several leaders and representatives of the diplomatic agency, academia, and institute in Korea also joined: Dr. Taejun Han, Campus President of Ghent University; Dr. Seung-Eun Lee, Director of Ewha-Solvay Research and Innovation Center; Dr. Byeungkwan Park, Head of Fraunhofer Representative Office Korea; Mr. Denis Fourmeau, Scientific and Academic Cooperation Attaché, Embassy of France; and Mr. Alexander Renner, First Counsellor-Scientific, Embassy of Germany, and so forth.

In their first meeting, Dr. Jee and H.E. Maria Castillo Fernandez exchanged strategies to reinforce scientific collaboration between the EU and the RoK. Dr. Jee expressed her high expectation that the Ministry of Science and ICT will continue eagerly participating in #HorizonEurope, the EU’s 9th Framework Programme on Research and Innovation. Both agreed that such robust collaboration would enable to further activate Korea-EU cooperation and contribute to the development of global science and technology. Dr. Jee also introduced the major role and impact of IPK’s research in improving domestic and international public health, including the progress made in discovering the COVID-19 therapeutics.
The latest information of Horizon Europe was introduced during the meeting: Horizon Europe, the EU’s key funding program for research and innovation with a €95.5 billion budget from 2021 to 2027, will enable a greener, more digital, and healthier society.
